Herdmen and Farmers clash killing 4 people
Four people have been confirmed dead and several others injured when farmers and herdsmen clashed in Sabon Daga village in Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State. The clash broke out yesterday morning and lasted for hours. Weapons such as Dane guns, bows and arrows, cutlasses, daggers among others, were said to be freely used by the warring parties. Just few days ago, cattle rustlers attacked Angwa Umadi village in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, killing a Senior Secondary School 2 student and injuring 15 others. The state Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed the attack, saying that four people have been confirmed dead from both sides. According to him, trouble reportedly started when herdsmen led their cattle to graze on the Gbagyi farmers’ farmland. The farmers put up resistance, leading to the clash. Elkana, however, said that the situation had been brought under control as security agents had been drafted to the village. He also said Fulani and Gbagyi elders in the area have also intervened by summoning an emergency meeting of their respective people in order to forestall any possible reprisal attacks that could lead to further bloodshed now or in the future. Vanguard, however, learned that despite the intervention by security and elders in the area, tension is still very high as both parties vowed to resist any trespass and/or resistance, as the case may be.
